She is our special needs baby. She came to us from Toledo Humane Society, where she was given up because her previous owners were not financially able to care for her or to find out the cause of her problems .......... The caring staff at the humane Society, tried very hard to find out why she is not growing normally, they did x-rays, they did blood tests and they did a joint tap, and all these tests came back either normal or unremarkable...But a Humane Society can only spend so much of their money on a dog, then they must find another way to help the dog or Humanely euthanize the dog.....But they felt that Bambi was special and that she deserved a chance to find happiness. They put out a plea for her life.... to all rescues... we answered their call. Our hearts are full of love and hope for all those that cannot help themselves, we just cannot say no to the faces of hope. Bambi needs our help and our support, and we will give it willingly. We took Bambi to Wilson Veterinary Clinic in Washington. We asked them to help us diagnosis Bambi's Condition, they did some reflex tests and they took x-rays of her Neck region and the x-rays came back as unremarkable. And Alas, no diagnosis, they have refered us to a Vet of Neurology, in hopes that they can give us a diagnosis. All the vets that have examined her, are at a loss for what it is that is ailing her. So Now we are in a quest to find out the answers, but unfortunately...this quest is not free, and we ask once again for the public to help us, help a dog that so desperately needs help..How do you put a price on Love? Bambi is a Golden Sable and White Shetland Sheepdog, she has the determination of a tugboat, she has the sweetest temperment, she wants to be able to play and run and chase and she wants to be able to be just like the other dogs.....But at this time, she can barely walk, but she does try and even though she falls down every few steps, She will get right back up after a rest and try it again, she refuses to give up... She struggles every day...But she is not giving up and neither are we... For whatever reason she seems to have an effect on those that see her... for those that do see her, they fall in love and when they do turn away there is a tear glistening in their eyes..We feel the exact same way...So we beg of all of you to please think positively and pray for her safe passage as she grows...... For each vet visit that we go to and for each specialist that we seek advice from... the costs for her care goes up and we need your help..to find out the answers for Bambi...because we think there is something very special about Bambi.. January 2009 We plan on taking this to the next level, we are waiting for blood test results, then we will will go from there, the next step will be a muscle biopsy, to find out the type of Dystropy. Just as in the human disease, ther is no cure for MD in canines. On a positive note...Bambi has made remarkable improvement, she is now able to walk longer distances with out stopping, she tries very hard to play with the others, she plays with toys and squeeker toys are her utmost favorite toy. She loves treats and can food too, though we cannot over feed her so just a little bit. She still has LOTS of determination, she is the little dog with lots of will power.....She has not given up and neither will we. Please vist her webpage to see her new video........
We need your financial help to make Bambi's life a more enjoyable one, we want to give the quality of life that she deserves, for it is not her fault that she was born this way. ___________________________________________________________________________ April 1st, 2009 Bambi is at a standstill, which does happen with patients of "MD" she is not progressing, but nor is she getting any worse. She seems to be at a waiting stage, and we are hoping that by getting her a K9 Cart that she will keep her determination, and joy of Life. With the generous donations of our supporters, for which we genuinely thank each and every one of those who have donated to the Bambi Cart Fund. We will be contacting the company to measure her for her custom made cart...Watch this page for more news about her cart. **On a special note...Due to the fact that Bambi did not do well at her last appearance she will not be making anymore appearances until the weather gets warmer...It took her almost 2 full weeks to recover from her last outing and we do not want to put her health at risk, in the future ***
July 2009 Bambi has come a long way since we took her in last year. She is now a year old, ahe is puttingon weight, and actually has grown an inch, not bad!!!!!
